screen lockup in Quickbooks 2020

have suddenly stopped being able to get a company to open up and no longer being asked for password. I get a blank, grey, full screen that I can't even exit out of.  Maybe my QB has been hacked? Or other possibilities (I hope). I did run a CC Cleaner yesterday but have never had problems with that in the past.

Regardless of reason, can I uninstall QB and then reinstall to solve this?

Restart your computer and try running QB again. If the same error persists, reinstall it.

Hello there, nytcpa. I'm also here to provide additional details.

It looks like data damage within your company file. Yes, you can uninstall and reinstall the program to resolve this problem. Before that, I recommend performing other possible solutions for an easy fix.

As Fiat Lux - ASIA advised, we can start restarting your device and run QuickBooks as administrator. Locate the QuickBooks icon on your computer or search it from the Start menu. Then, right-click and select Run as administrator.

If the same thing happens, we can run the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool helps us fix problems showing within our company file.

  1. Download the most recent version (1.5.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Open the file as QuickBooksToolHub.exe.
  3. Follow the on-screen directions to install the software and confirm that you agree to the terms.
  4. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to launch the tool hub after the installation is complete.

Then, run the Quick Fix my Program. Here's how:

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If the issue persists after following the recommendation above, we can proceed with these steps. Make sure you have your license number before removing QuickBooks from your desktop.

Here's how we can uninstall and re-install the program:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu. Search for “Control Panel”, then open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. From the list of programs, select the version of QuickBooks Desktop you want to remove.
  4. Select Uninstall/Change and then Remove.  Select Next.  If you don’t see this option, sign out and sign back in to Windows as an admin (or a user with admin rights).
  5. Install QuickBooks Desktop (select product and version).
