Question

Should I return to Desktop QB if I've had no success with online setup? Also, I am missing nearly 6 months of financial info when attempting to print reports.

We are a small nonprofit, barely familiar with QB 2015 Windows version for years...A little over a year ago converted to an Apple Mac mini with QB 2021 Desktop and transferred files successfully. Switched to QB online and could not complete setup. Been writing checks and entering info in Desktop. Recently attempted printing monthly P&L statements for fiscal year of 06/01/2021-05/30/2022 but missing mid-sept 2021 through mid-march 2022. ?

Hello @officeppjn-aol-c,

Thank you for letting us know about the missing data. I'm here to assist you with recovering the files when converting to QuickBooks Online.

I can see that you're new to the Online version and having an issue with the missing data. It's not the experience we want you to go through, so I want to share some clarification when migrating from Desktop.

When you switch, you may notice differences in how your books appear. There are limitations on what you can convert and upload to QBO. To learn more about it, check out this link: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

I suggest you give it a try before switching back. Since there are missing data, it would be best to perform the conversion again. We only copy the data. Your information should still be available from the old program.

You can start by deleting your data in QuickBooks Online and start over with new books. There's an option to clear the entire data if your books are less than 60 days old.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account. (You'll need to sign in as an admin user.)
  2. Look at the URL in your browser's address bar. Delete all the text after the last / and enter purgecompany.
    For example:
  3. To confirm you want to delete your company data, enter Yes.
  4. Select OK, then Wipe data.

Once done, attempt to convert your data again from the Desktop version. Please make sure to follow the step-by-step instructions to ensure your data imports correctly.

Sometimes you also get an error when you move to another QuickBooks version. I've attached an article you can use to resolve it through steps you can perform within the program: Fix errors when you move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you need more help retrieving the missing data. I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a great day.
