Starting today, every time I log in to QB it is sending a verification code,. is this happening to others?

    Yes, every user can receive a verification code by enabling two-step verification, @beckypeterson113. Let me share some information about this feature.

     

    The code you're receiving can be caused by the two-step verification security feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This helps protect your account from unauthorized access by adding an extra layer of protection to verify your identity.

     

    If you want to turn off this feature, please note that if you're using the same device, you will not receive a verification code. However, if you're using a new device, you will be prompted to enter a code.

     

    Here's how:

     

    1. Sign in to your Intuit account.
    2. From the left menu, select Sign in & security.
    3. Select 2-step verification.
    4. Turn off the Use 2-step verification switch.
    5. Enter your account password, then select Continue.

    You aren't understanding the question. Before it only sent a code when the system sensed a new computer or new location. Now it's doing it ALL THE TIME. Can we go back to email address/password and then MFA prompt rather than email address/wait for email to be sent, THEN MFA?
    It is slowing me down.

    1. Turn Off Two-Step Verification: You can turn off two-step verification in QuickBooks Online by following the steps provided by my colleague above.
    2. Trusted Devices: Select the Trust this device option when you enter the verification code. It should reduce the frequency of prompts on that device.
    3. Browser Settings: Ensure your browser is set to remember cookies and site data, which helps QuickBooks recognize your device and may reduce the need for repeated verification.
    4. Authenticator App: Consider using an authenticator app for multi-factor authentication (MFA). It can be faster than waiting for an email or SMS. You can set this up in your Intuit account under the Sign In & Security section.

    Starting the other day I need a code to login I tried to turn off the 2 step verification but it won't let me.  This is driving me crazy every time I login I need to get a login sent via text to me.  Why can't I just login like I used to.

    I'm glad to see you in this thread, @MMD639.

     

    I'll add information about why you're asked for a code to log in and guide you in turning off the two-step verification.

     

    You'll be required to enter a code if you clear the cache and cookies of the default browser where you usually sign in or when using a private window and another device to log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

     

    Please know that there are two ways to disable the 2-step verification. If you're still using the same phone number, you can follow the steps my colleague @MelroseV provided in this thread. If you're using a different one, here's how:

     

    1. Fill out the  Proof of identity form. You'll be asked to attach a copy of your driver's license, state ID, passport, or notarized document when completing the form.
    2. Select Submit once the file is uploaded.
    3. Sign in to your Intuit Account if you receive a message that your phone number is updated.
    4. Click Sign in & security. Then, pick 2-step verification.
    5. Turn off the Use 2-step verification switch.
    6. Type in your password, then Continue.
    7. A message will show that 2-step verification is now off. A confirmation email will also be sent to you stating your security preference is updated.

    Also, keep in mind that once you turn off the 2-step verification, you'll still be prompted by Intuit to verify your identity to avoid compromising your account security.

     

    If the issue persists, I recommend contacting QuickBooks Online (QBO) Care Team to review your account security settings and locate the root cause so they can provide you with a way on how to turn it off.
