Question

We have turned on the tip feature so that customers can add a tip when paying their invoice. Which report do I run to see which customers have given a tip?

I have the tip feature turned on so that customers can add a tip to payments made in QBO.  I have created the chart of accounts, but now I need to know which report will show me the tip amount and detail so that I can pay out to my employees?

I can help run a report for the customer tips, @dvernier@bestirr.

When turning on the tip feature, there's a specific default account set. To check, we can go to the Advance settings.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Your Company, select Account and settings.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Select the Chat of accounts edit pencil icon.
  5. Check which account is affected in the Tips account.
  6. Hit Save and then Done.

Once done, go to the Chart of accounts and run the report. I'll guide you on how.

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then Chart of accounts.
  2. Search the account in the Filter by name dialogue box.
  3. Click the View register drop-down arrow, then select Run report.

We can also run the Transaction Detail by Account and then filter the account.

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. In the search bar, type Transaction Detail by Account.
  3. Click the Customize button.
  4. Select the Filter drop-down.
  5. Tick the Distribution Account box, then select the specific account from the drop-down arrow.
  6. Hit Run report.
