What QBD version and how many licenses

Good morning.  I have a question, I am taking on a client that has two small LLC's running on a cash basis only recording cash receipts and paying bills and running payroll for 4 employees on one LLC and 1 employee on the 2nd LLC.

 

They had been using QBD Accountant using their accountants license which they need to get off of by 1/1/23.

 

I am struggling to figure out if I need to purchase them two versions of QBD or can purchase one and have two company files with two seperate EIN's as I have done with my other clients.

 

And if so, how do I enable it so that three users can be in the software simultaneously?  In the past when I have set up two users one logs on it kicks the other off?

 

Purchasing two sets of QBD for a small company would be a bit too costly for them right now and they are not interested in online.

 

If I an do this, I am assuming that I simply purchase the software, back up my company file, and when I install the new company file, I just point it at the backup file to bring it in.

 

What am I missing here?

They can purchase a license for QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus for 3 users.

Let me share my ideas about assisting your client's company using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

 

Fiat Lux – ASIA is correct about purchasing or managing the two companies under one license. Since QBDT allows multiple companies under one license, you can create another company in your application for the other one. Nonetheless, you can add numerous companies with different EINs separately to record the taxes correctly.

 

To do that, you can follow the steps below:

 

  1. Open your QBDT company file.
  2. Select Create a new company in the No Company Open window.
  3. Choose the option you want when setting up the company. You can either Express Start/Start Setup or Detailed Start. 
  4. Follow the onscreen steps to finish the setup and select Start Working.

 

On the other hand, regarding your option of backing up your company file. If you feel confident with this process, you can also opt for that one. Additionally, if you're the only one accessing the company, you can purchase a single license QBDT. Otherwise, you can opt for a multi-user company.
