Question

Why does the trial balance give three months of data when I ask for a full calendar year?

How do I generate a trial balance for a prior calendar year?  When I ask for 1/1/23 - 12/31/23, I get data for 10/1/23 - 12/31/23.  I need a full year.  Is this a new issue with QB, because it used to work properly.

Hello pamela22,

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community! I was able to test this on my end I was able to get the full calendar year! Let's go ahead and do some troubleshooting steps to ensure this is not browser related. Here's how:

First, try incognito mode. Here's how:

  1. Using your Google Chrome browser, click the 3 vertical dots at the upper left corner.
  2. Choose New Incognito Window.
  3. Visit QuickBooks Online webpage. (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/)
  4. Sign in using your registered credentials.
  5. Run the report Trial Report again to see if it is working, close the incognito tab.

If it is performing correctly, you need to clear cache and cookies.

  1. Open a regular browser (google)
  2.  We will now delete the cache and cookies:
  3. On the same 3 vertical dots at the left corner, click Settings.
  4. On the left navigation panel, choose Privacy and Security.
  5. Then, choose Clear browsing data.
  6. Under time range, select All time.
  7. Check all three options available:

                ✓ Browsing History

✓ Cookies and other site data

                ✓ Cached images and files.

If you are still experiencing issues, let me know so we can further investigate this matter! See you soon.

@pamela22

A trail balance shows your GL debit and credit balances at a specific point in time, not over a time period.  So, whether your trial balance report is run from 1-1-23 to 12-31-23 or 10-1-23 to 12-31-23, both reports are showing you your ledger balances on 12-31-23.
