It seems as if one cannot use their American Express account credentials to sync their new Business Checking account with QuickBooks.

I'm glad you check this with us, nadeemvaidya.

When connecting your American Express Business Checking account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), make sure to take note of the following:

  • Correct bank name. It's important to verify the name of the bank from the list as there are some banks that have multiple names.
  • The bank might not connect to all types of accounts (for example, personal accounts vs. business accounts).
  • The bank is supported in QBO.

All you need to know about connecting bank account in QBO can be found in this article: Find your bank account when you connect to online banking.

If the above-mentioned were verified but you're still unable to connect your bank, I recommend reaching out to your financial institution as they may be having system maintenance.

Then, you can go back to QuickBooks and try adding your bank account again.

Here's how:

  1. Select Banking from the left menu.
  2. Click Add Account.
  3. Search your bank or use the correct URL when you log in to your bank's website.
  4. Enter your bank's username and password.
  5. Select the type of account.
  6. Choose how far back you want to download bank transactions.
  7. Click Connect.

You can also read through this article for the detailed steps on how to connect your bank accounts in QBO:

Here's an article that you might find helpful when matching and managing your downloaded transactions: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other concerns with your bank feeds. I'll be around to help. Wishing you the best of luck!

Unfortunately, I’ve tried all the various options available for American Express. None pull up the American Express National Bank Business Checking product from American Express.

it is visible on the Amex website when I log in with my usual business card login info.

Thanks for visiting the support forum for QuickBooks again, @nadeemvaidya.

I can share some insights about this online banking setup matter.

If you're unable to see the bank you want to connect with after inputting the financial institution's name or link, it's most likely not yet supported by Intuit. Updates to our Online Banking processes like supporting certain banks that are not yet affiliated with us are handled by our engineers. Since they work on this internally, we're unable to provide any further details.

They release official updates based on the number of requests they have for your financial institution. To request support for your bank, follow these steps in your QuickBooks Online account:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Select Add account.
  3. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks is unable to find your bank, you will get the message, "Hmm, we can’t find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," and you will be presented with helpful tips to try and locate your bank account.
  4. If you’re still unable to find your bank, select Request support for your bank.
  5. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided, then select Request.

As an alternative, you can download transactions from your bank's website manually by uploading them to QuickBooks Online.

Follow these steps if your bank can't connect to QuickBooks:

  1. In QuickBooks Online, go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Click on Upload transactions.
  3. Select Browse and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Next.
  4. In the QuickBooks account ▼  dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions into. Then select Next.

If you're new to QuickBooks, you may not have an account to upload the transactions into. If you don't see one, select Add New ▼ from the dropdown to create a new bank account.

  1. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Next
  2. Select the transactions you would like to import. Then select Next.
  3. Choose Yes.
  4. When you're ready, select Let's go.

For your reference, see the following links to import your transactions in QuickBooks:

Any updates on this?  Here I am, 11 months later having the same issue.  Why wouldn't this be an option by now?  Please fix this.  I submitted a request to "add the bank", but I have a feeling if it hasn't been added by now (11 months later), that request won't do much.  Please assist!

I know this has been very challenging for you. I've got you covered, marcycpa.

I appreciate you for sending a request to add your bank as a financial institution for Online banking in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You may check your email address if you received an update on this request. You can also contact our Customer Support Team to check the update of your bank request.

On the other hand, if you are trying to connect your American Express Business card accounts, there are some possible reasons why you can't connect them. Among these are:

  • The account is already connected to another QuickBooks Online company for online banking. American Express accounts can only be tied to one company at a time.
  • The connection is incomplete on the QuickBooks side of things. If this happens, the connection may stop suddenly, or the browser may close partway through.

If you want to connect your American Express account to another company, just open the QuickBooks company it's currently connected to. Then, disconnect the account there and connect it again. If you couldn't complete the connection, disconnect the grayed-out account from the American Express website. Here's how:

  1. Go to the American Express website.
  2. Tap the Account Services tab.
  3. Choose Security & Privacy.
  4. Hit Manage Partner Permissions and then Intuit to expand the section.
  5. Click Disconnect to stop the connection.
  6. Follow the steps in this article to reconnect the account to QuickBooks.

All admins can manage American Express transactions, and this includes accounting firms you added to your QuickBooks company. Here's an article you can refer to for more details about connecting your American Express Business account to QuickBooks Online.

If none of the above steps solves the issue, you may still be able to download transactions from your bank's website and manually upload them to QuickBooks Online. Here's how to upload bank transactions through Web Connect or import bank transactions from an Excel CSV file into QBO.

When you're able to see the accounts with the downloaded bank entries, you can start categorizing them for your books. Check this article if you need a guide: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding this link in case you need help managing bank-related tasks: Find help with bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

Please know that you're always welcome to swing by anytime if you still have questions or concerns with bank accounts. I'm here to help. Take care and stay safe.

Thank you for providing that information.  I disconnected everything and started all over, but it didn't work.  It still only gives me the option to connect the credit cards.  Checking account with AMEX is NOT an option when connecting with your steps.

Also... when I do this... Go to the American Express website. Tap the Account Services tab. Choose Security & Privacy. Hit Manage Partner Permissions and then Intuit to expand the section. Click Disconnect to stop the connection... there isn't ANYTHING listed.  But, my cards are most definitely connected to QBO and synced for well over a year now.

Any other suggestions?

So it been 1 year and we still don't have a connection to amex business checking?  Sad to see when companies get big they decide to go against the people who got them there. You don't get richer gatekeeping features from your clients. Add value to your people and the world and I promise you won't have to worry about your cashflow.

- message for the CEO and engineering team

Also telling us to just connect our CHECKING accounts using the CREDIT card login makes no sense at all. It all white noise. And I don't have time to chase after CSV files every month from AMEX and any other bank who isn't supported. Do what we pay you for, you guys are a accounting company.

And do not reply to this with some info that doesn't help at all. The only reply I want is the news that the connection was made.

November 8, 2022

Please create a connection for this. I just switched over to American Express Business Checking and there is no way to create the connection. I have tried talking to support and tried all of the steps and nothing works. Clearly there is enough demand for requests for this account to have Quickbook capabilities. PLEASE send this up the chain of command and do something about this because it is effecting customer satisfaction.

Hi lovelilies,

Thank you for trying the steps and for contacting our Support team. I believe you've been informed by them that the decision to provide feeds to QBO is between Intuit and American Express. Therefore, all we can do at the moment is wait until the option becomes available in the future.

I also encourage you to submit feedback on this matter in addition to the things you have done. Just click on the Gear icon and choose Feedback.

Alternatively, you can manually upload your transactions so you can work on them in QuickBooks.

Let me know if you have other questions in mind. Take care and have a good one.

November 8, 2022

Again, you are not reading (or choosing to ignore) other posts in this thread. I, among other customers, have followed the steps in Jen D's post, myself well over two dozen times, over several months, to request the American Express Business Checking account be added and provided the link, as requested. You are clearly dancing around the issue and failing to provide your customers with a transparent response as to why there has been no connection made between Amex Business Checking and Intuit.

November 8, 2022

Currently looking to open a business checking account with AmEx and this whole thread may have dissuaded me from doing so.

Clearly there is a desire for the integration can we get a transparent answer or idea of timeline for integration? Importing CSVs isn't sustainable and this seems to already be a major partner of yours...

A real update would be appreciated!

November 10, 2022

Just signed up for a amex business checking account and ended up here when I couldn't connect it to QBO.  Any updates on this? Are we going to have connectivity soon or should I look elsewhere?

November 10, 2022

Seriously? Keep raising our fees while leaving issues like this for over a year...

Hello, @brownmg2.

I know how relevant it is to have your American Express Business account connected to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let me chime in and provide some information when connecting your bank in QBO.

If you're trying to connect your American Express Business accounts, there are some possible reasons why you can't connect them. Among these are:

  • Your bank has multiple names on our list. Let's ensure you have selected the correct listing or have tried all possible links. Search by the banking sign-in URL to ensure you're using the correct listing.
  • The bank might now connect to all types of accounts (for example, personal accounts vs. business accounts).
  • Your bank is not a participating financial institution.

Also, you can refer to this article for the detailed steps on how to connect your bank account in QBO: Connect your American Express Business account to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, if the steps provided by my colleagues don't apply on your end, I'd recommend contacting your financial institution to have the best possible solution for your bank connectivity.

Alternatively, you can download transactions from your bank and manually upload them to QBO so you can work on them in QuickBooks.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us or leave a comment below if you require further assistance with bank connectivity. Keep safe!

This works for our AMEX credit cards, not the business checking.

I just switched to Amex Business Checking today and low and behold here I am. This needs to be added ASAP.

It's an AMEX problem. Ask a rep to escalate the issue so they get this going!

With all these nonsense replies from the mods, i'm going to start looking for alternative accounting software. This is crazy.
