Hey there, helen-morton.

Deleting an account with a zero balance is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. The system ensures that you can still restore the bank information in case you need it for future transactions. This is why it will only give you the option to inactivate it.

If this a duplicate account, you have the option to merge them to create a single representation of your bank in the Chart of Accounts.

I'll be sharing with your the following article: Understand the chart of accounts in QuickBooks. This write-up contains information on what are the default accounts that can't be deleted in the system.

Additionally, our development team is constantly working to improve the product and appreciates the help of users in bringing things like this to their attention. I'd encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Online Blog to be updated with our latest news including product enhancements.

Feel free to drop me a reply below if you have any other bank accounts or QuickBooks concerns. I'll be around to help. Have a good one.
