Question

Bank reconciled but not showing correct amount on balance sheet

Can someone please advise what I might be doing wrong.  I reconcile my bank every month, but now the accountant has run a balance sheet at the end of the year 30/11/19  and  the bank balance  is showing a completely different figure to what the reconciled amount was at that date.

I don't know where to start to try and fix this so any help would be great.

Many thanks

Hi Patricia,

It's great to hear you've been completing your monthly bank reconciliations in order to keep on top of your bookkeeping. Reconciling your accounts on a regular basis will ensure no transactions have been missed and it's going to keep you so organized. If you're seeing a different bank balance on your Balance Sheet vs. the reconciled amount, there's a number of variables that could be impacting this.

It's essential that your accountant is running the Balance Sheet for the correct date-range. Also, if you've edited any previously reconciled transactions, that may also be causing a discrepancy in your numbers.

In this type of situation, I think it's always best to reach out to our tech support team so an agent can fully review what's happening in your account. Since the resolution to something like this would be different for each individual account, our agents can remotely share your screen in order to see exactly what's going on.

I'm confident that they'll be able to steer you in the right direction, but here's a few articles that may help get you started:

Have a great day!
