Question

Can my QuickBooks card payments for the last year that have been auto catagorized to my books under the wrong bank be changed to reflect the actual account they are in?

Hi shuswapsynthetic,

Welcome to Community!  When bank transactions have been categorized to the wrong account, it can definitely put a damper on your day.  Not to worry, QuickBooks Online provides the ability to correct the situation, so your accounts balance.  I would be glad to assist!

If the account has been reconciled, it's recommended to unreconcile it before making any changes to the associated transactions.  Making changes after a reconciliation, can have a negative impact on your books.  Please be advised that only QuickBooks Online Accountant users will be able to unreconcile the transactions.  If you don't have an accountant, we can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your area.  Once the accounts have been unreconciled, you can re-categorize the transactions, but this can be time consuming based on the amount of transactions that need to be moved.  However, you can create a journal entry to move the funds to the appropriate account.   Be sure to reconcile the accounts after the funds have been relocated, to ensure your books remain balanced.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out.  We would be happy to assist!
