Question

How do I record a transaction from an external account? For example, if the business credit card was paid from the home bank account instead of the business bank account.

Hi userbeal-lyndsey,

Welcome to the Community! I know that sometimes it's necessary to use a personal account for business transactions. This can cause some confusion when trying to record it afterwards. I'll shed some light on how to handle such a situation and get you back to business.

QuickBooks Online makes it easy to record a transaction from an external account into your books. You can check out our Community article Track personal money or investments to your business which provides steps on how to track funds going into the business.

If this direction isn't quite what you're looking for, I recommend consulting an accountant to determine which alternative is most suitable for your business. You can invite your accountant to view your QuickBooks Online file from within the My Accountant screen. If you're not currently working with an accountant, you can use the Find a pro to help option to search for a QuickBooks Online-certified Pro Advisor in your area.

Have a great day!
