Question

I have two accounts in my chart of accounts that should really be merged (as there is only one bank account they both point to). Is there an easy was to merge the two?

The original account would not sync properly with my bank. so I was forced to create it again and sync it up. I'd like to merge the records in each so that they are all in one account in QB

Hi hello-instepadve,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online provides the option to merge accounts in keeping your Chart of Accounts organized.  It would be my pleasure to assist you through the process!

Before beginning, please be advised that this is not reversible and can't be undone.  All transactions and historical data will be moved to the account that you'll be keeping when the process is complete.

Follow these steps to merge accounts;

1. Open your Settings ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts

2. Locate the account you're keeping, and select Edit

3. Take a Screen Shot that includes the NameDetail TypeDescription,

4. If the account has been numbered, make note then remove the number

5. If the sub-account is marked, make note of the Parent account it's associated with

6. Hit Cancel to return to the Chart of Accounts

7. Next, go to the account you don't want to keep and click Edit in the Action column

8. Enter the NameDetail Type and all other information that matches the account information in your previous screenshot and notes

Note; If these are sub-accounts, make sure they're associated with the same parent. If only one is a sub-account, make it a parent account by deselecting the Is Sub-account option.

9. Hit Save, then Yes to confirm.
