Question

I recorded a credit under Receiver General for a reversal of a fine + interest for payroll tax. How can I record that I have used this credit on my latest payment?

Hello mupadhyay,

Welcome to Community!  Recording your Payroll Tax payments accurately in QuickBooks Online, ensures well balanced books.  When you receive a refund or credit, it's essential to enter the information, so your Payroll Remittance remains aligned.  I would be glad to assist!

QuickBooks Online Payroll provides the ability to record your payroll tax payments, that were made outside of QuickBooks.  When you see a negative tax amount, or have a credit notice from the CRA, you can resolve the overpayment by following these steps;

1. Go to Taxes and select Payroll tax

2. Select the Pay option in the Actions column

3. Review the entries in the Federal Taxes section and select Record payment to check the overpayment. This will appear as a negative amount.

4. Complete the required fields

If you have any other questions, I recommend reaching out to your accountant. If you don't have an accountant, We can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your local area.

Feel free to reach out again, if any other questions come to mind. We would be happy to help!
