Hello jeaton-thompson,

I'm glad to hear that you're keeping on top of the reconciliations in QuickBooks Online. This will ensure that your business's books are kept in balance and you'll have a sense of your business's expenses and income. I can help you with correcting the wrong ending balance when reconciling.

When you're going through the reconciliation process, the program ask you to input some details before diving in. Some of that information can be changed, while other details cannot. One of the things that can be changed when you haven't yet completed the reconciliation for a specific month is the ending date. Here's how.

  1. If you'd navigated away from the Reconcile window, hover over Accounting in the left menu and choose Reconcile.
  2. Choose Resume reconciling.
  3. On the Reconcile page, select Edit info.
  4. Modify the Ending balance field to what you need.
  5. Hit Save.

Just like that, the ending balance will be corrected. If you've already completed the reconciliation and had the program create an adjusting entry for you, it'll mean manually undoing the reconciliation unless you have an accountant user that can help. To do it yourself, check out this article: Undo and remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online

An accountant is an asset in this situation as they'll be able to tell you how undoing a reconciliation will impact your books. Not only that, but if they're a user on your account, they have a special accountant tool that will let them undo the reconciliation for you. Check out the My Accountant tab to find the field where you can invite an accountant on as a user to your QuickBooks Online as well as the Find a pro to help button to connect you with someone in your area who can assist.

Wishing you the best!
