Question

My account has never been reconciled. I have transactions dated back to 2017. How do I reconcile this? Can someone walk me through this?

Thanks for reaching out here.  Welcome!  QuickBooks Online is an exquisite accounting program that allows you to complete your daily goals with simplicity.  I'll be happy to help!

 

Reconciling your accounts is like balancing your chequebook to ensure everything matches with your monthly statements.  We recommend doing this monthly to ensure your accounts are always accurate and up to date.  When you connect your financial institution, QuickBooks will download the transactions automatically and enter the opening balance for you.  Once you have your monthly statement you can get started with reconciling.  As you've mentioned, you'd like to start from 2017.  In this situation you'll start reconciling from the oldest statement.

 

Before getting started you'll want to review and categorize downloaded transactions as outlined in this guide.  When you're ready to reconcile, follow these steps:

 

1. Go to Settings ⚙ and then Reconcile and Get started

2. Select the Account you want to reconcile using the Account ▼ dropdown

3. Make sure the Beginning balance matches your statement

4. Enter the Ending balance and Ending date as it appears on your statement

5. Start with the first transaction on your statement, locate it in the list and put a checkmark next to the amount

6. When you've marked all transactions, the Difference between your statement and QuickBooks should be $0.00.

7. Hit Finish now

Repeat this process for each month in sequence up to the current date.
