Question

My client paid his first quarterly payment to the CRA for his HST. It's sitting for me to reconcile; what's the best way to record it?

Hi there,

QuickBooks Online makes it simple for you to account for different types of business transactions. Filing sales tax is a four part process. First, prepare your sales tax return in QuickBooks Online. Second, submit your return to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Third, close your filing period in QuickBooks Online. Finally, record your payment to or refund from the CRA. I'd be happy to explain this process further so you can record the payment your client made to the CRA.

Follow the steps listed in this helpful Community article: File Sales Tax

As explained in the article, you'll file your sales tax via the Taxes tab in QBO. Once filed, you'll be able to record the payment in a few simple steps.

If you're still in need of assistance after following the workflow outlined in the article above, please reach out to our tech support team. An agent would be happy to walk you through it while remotely sharing your screen.

Have a great week.
