My financial statements are in CAD. I have a US bank account. How do I reconcile the currency diff - my payroll is paid out of a usd acct but the expense is in CAD

It's awesome to see you're using QuickBooks Online's multi-currency features at such an advanced level! The payroll modules are designed to work best with home currency accounts, so the best way to record foreign currency adjustments is by using a journal entry to record it manually. If you're unsure how to balance this journal entry, your accountant is the best person to ask. You can easily invite your accountant as a user to approach this together. To search for a pro in your area, simply head to the My Accountant tab in QuickBooks Online then click on Find a pro to help.
