Partially matched transaction

My client had overpaid a supplier and the amount was credited in the next payment. Now I'm having a hard time matching up the invoices in the banking section because of the difference. Had anyone experienced the same thing before?

Hi there kv04,

It's vital that all your transactions be entered correctly for your books to be well balanced. QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you with keeping track of expenses ad bills so you know the amount owed to your suppliers. I can point you in the right direction to enter this overpayment correctly.

In order to create this overpayment, it would need to be manually created. To do so, go to the Expenses tab, then Suppliers. Click on the supplier in question, then in their transaction list, find the bill that was overpaid. To the right of that bill, there should be the option to Make a payment, then once in that option, check the bill you'd first like to apply it to. once done that, in the Amount text box on the right of the page, adjust it to the total, including the overpayment. The first part will be applied to the original bill, then the other part will remain unapplied. You can then go to the banking tab, and match it with the payment you just created.
