Hi there,

Syncing your account to the bank feeds in QuickBooks Online is the best way to make the most of your bookkeeping in the cloud. I'm glad you're taking advantage of all the features available to you in QBO. I'd be happy to explain how you can make a different customer selection for your transaction if QBO has categorized it incorrectly.

When your transactions are imported from your bank's website, QuickBooks Online will make suggestions based on previous transactions in regards to the customer, supplier, or category it thinks will be a good fit. These are simply smart tools that make recommendations, but you're still able to change it if QBO didn't get it right.

The review process allows you to select Customer B if QBO has selected Customer A by mistake. All you have to do is click the transaction, then select the right customer from the Supplier/Customer drop-down menu.

For more information about how to categorize transactions in the bank feed, check out this Community article: Match and categorize bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

What if you realize you matched it to the wrong customer, is there a way to change it?

Hi asj8279,

Thank you for joining this thread! I'm happy to confirm that QuickBooks Online lets you change the customer a transaction was matched with if you realize it was matched incorrectly. I can walk you through how to do this.

To change the customer, you'll need to Undo the match that was originally done. Here's how to do this:

  • From within the Banking menu, navigate to the Reviewed tab of the account that the transaction is in.
  • Locate the transaction that needs to be corrected, then click the Undo button to the right of the transaction.
  • The transaction will then appear back in the For review tab again. Click on that transaction so that the customer dropdown menu appears, and adjust the customer to the correct one. Once you're finished, click Match.

Your transaction will then be matched to the correct customer. You can learn more about undoing and matching bank transactions in the following articles:
