Question
Re: Is there a way to attach a copy of the bank statements to the bank reconciliation? The CPA's like to see this.
That feature now appears to be available, but it's incredibly buggy. I have attached what I see when I click on "View statements" in the "Reconcile" tab. It looks like statements are being downloaded directly from my bank, but there are several problems.
- Although the top of the screen shows that I'm working in my "Chequing - CAD" account, absolutely all of the statements are for my "Chequing - USD" account. If I switch to any account that has statements, only "Chequing - USD" statements are shown in the "Reconciled" tab and none in the "Unreconciled" tab.
- If I switch to an account that doesn't support statement download, I get a message saying so, but the "Unreconciled" tab shows statements for my "MasterCard" account and the "Reconciled" tab shows nothing.
- As you can see from the list, many statements have been downloaded twice.
- Furthermore, all these statements were downloaded on December 2. At that time, my November statement was available online, but it's not in the list.
- When I select "History by account", I can see the statements for the right accounts, but the "duplicates" problem still exists and the end of November statements are missing.
- The statements that have been downloaded don't show up in the global "Attachments" list.
- The statement files are named according to the name the bank gives them. I have a naming convention I use and I'm unable to rename the files to something more sensible.
- Although there's an "Attach" option for older reconciliation reports, because there's no connection to the global "Attachments" list, I can't link to the statements that I have stored there. If I want to attach older statements, I would have to download them from the global list and re-upload them here.
- Although the history is supposed to show "Attachments" for reconciliations that have attachments and "Attach" for reconciliations that don't, I can in fact click on quite a few with "Attach" and find that they in fact do have attachments.
The whole thing is a dog's breakfast.
