Question

Why do some transactions not show up when I try to "find match" in banking?

I receive different results when I click on an e-transfer sent on the 26th and when I click on a supplier charge on the 26th.  Shouldn't all outstanding/unmatched results show up every time?

I'd like to share some insights about this matching concern and walk you through the match process, @banchor1.

There are cases where some of the transactions can’t find their match from existing records. Here are the possible reasons why:

  • The payees don’t match
  • The amounts don't match
  • The dates don't match or is not close
  • The transaction is older than 6 months. But you can still find a match when you select the Find match section.
  • The bank account on the payment is not the same as the bank where the match is located
  • The payment has been reconciled
  • The transaction is already matched to something else
  • There’s a multi-currency issue with the exchange rates

If QuickBooks doesn't automatically detect a match, manually find the match using the Find Match option. Here's how:

  1. On the Banking find and click the bank transaction.
  2. Mark the Find Match option.
  3. Review the Matching records found in QuickBooks. This is the possible matching transaction you already entered in QuickBooks.
  4. Select the box next to each match.
  5. Make sure this is the correct match, then click Save.
