Is anyone bothered at all by the discontinuation of scan manager in QB 2022 Desktop? See attached image.

Let me share some updates with you, @ICGTtreasurer.

I'm sad to inform you that the Scan Manager feature was discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop 2022, and it was replaced with Attach Documents. However, it can still be used in previous, currently supported versions.

If you have the latest version, you can now use the QuickBooks Desktop mobile app, upload your documents to the system using your mobile device. You can then add them to your invoices, purchase orders, or other transactions.

Know that QBDT currently supports PDFs and images with JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG format. To utilize this feature, you'll need to download the QuickBooks Desktop app.

Please refer to these links below on how to download them based on your device:

Once done, you can now start capturing and uploading the documents. If you're using the Android version, here's how you can do that:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Desktop Android app, then tap Document under Snap and Upload.
  2. Tap the company to upload bills to, then tap Continue.
  3. Tap Snap Document.
  4. Tap the Camera icon to take a picture of the bill or tap the Photos icon to upload your bill. If you need to, you can crop and rotate the photo.
  5. Tap Use this photo.
  6. Add a Name and Memo, then tap Upload photo then tap OK.
  7. Sign in to your Intuit Account and select the company to upload bills too. You’ll only need to do this once.
  8. Sign in to your QuickBooks Desktop company file to review, edit, and match bills to transactions.

If you're using the iOS version, please see the steps on the link attached: Attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop using mobile. It also contains steps on how to view and attach documents in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've also collected these resources that you can use for guidance and streamline your daily accounting tasks:

Please let me know if you have any other questions by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to answer them. Take good care, @ICGTtreasurer.

I recently moved from Quickbooks Premier 2019 Desktop to Quickbooks Premier "Plus" 2022 for Desktop.  After installing the "upgrade", I noticed that the scan manager has been removed.  This is a vital feature in our day to day operations.  We use for every single transaction posted to Quickbooks.  The new method of attaching documents is wildly inefficient.  Please bring back the scan manager as soon as possible, as this is costing users time and money.  It really makes no sense to move in reverse.  What exactly are we paying for in "Plus", when features that we've built processes around are being made to be inefficient.  Thanks a lot, Intuit!

The new mobile method of scanning and uploading receipts and invoices is a complete joke. Even when you scan an invoice from a quickbooks program....

- Can't recognize the vendor

- Gets every due date wrong

- Doesn't support PO numbers

- NEVER finds a document match

- Multiple page invoices? Forget it.

People, they will NEVER bring back Scan Manager. Intuit is skating along and putting all their development resources into the online versions. As was said before, does anyone at Intuit beta test these "features" with real world customers? Why don't they inform people that they are taking away a function?

Ridiculous.

We can't go to online, because we cant take our scans with us! So angry. Its insane.

January 3, 2022

This is the worst! I also scan hundreds of documents to attached to every invoice I send out.  QB needs to rethink this change.

Way to throw us back to the stone age Quickbooks!!   Have you ever heard of paperless workplaces?

Why would you discontinue this? Are we now supposed to buy all of our employees a

work cell phone ? Employees do not want to use there personal cell phones to scan for business

purposes and as an employer I DO NOT WANT THEM TO HAVE THIS INFORMATION. This is the

worst upgrade of all times!  I'm sure many will be looking for a more modern and innovative

software, I know I will.......

@Lisa Groves

If the feature is critical to your business, consider sticking with QBD 2021 until QBD 2023 is released.

I haven’t upgraded yet as a result of the removal of scan manager. Do you know for a fact they are bringing it back?

January 25, 2022

Removing Scan Manager was a bad decision.

Now there are extra steps in order to add scanned items into QB.
If I wanted to be "Mobile" with my QB, I would have switched over to the QB-Online program.

So, now I am supposed to download QB to my phone, pull out my phone, photograph an item I want scanned and then add it to QB?  I'm sorry, but phone pictures of something is not going to be as good of a quality as scanning with my scanner.  I primarily used the Scan manager for adding copies of checks to customer payments and insurance information for my sub-contractors.
Freaking stupid.

Bad enough that I now have to pay for a subscription in order to use QB desktop.  Just another expense that QB is implementing on people.  I used to only upgrade every 3 years.

@chaneymillerinc

If you are still using QBD 2021, you can still buy the one time license for QBD 2021.

We are now considering another accounting software for our company.  The scan Manager is a big part of our everyday operations.  We are an Inspection Company and need to scan documents to attached to our invoices for emailing to our customers. We have thousands of buildings in Illinois.  We will not add any more steps for our 8 employees to perform it would take too much time to scan to the computer and attach to QuickBooks when you can scan right into the program.  I upgraded 8 machines to 2022 to find out the Scan Manager was missing, so lost a complete day because I had to roll all machines back to Enterprise 2021 so our office wouldn't lose any more time.  Extremely disappointed with how Quickbooks can be so STUPID and regress with Enterprise 2022.  We pay over 6k for this program a year. There should be a credit available for an upgrade that's useless or here's an idea PUT THE SCAN MANAGER BACK so we can upgrade.

I'm uninstalling version 2022 today and going back.  Removal of scan manager is a totally foolish feature to remove.  Why don't you fix the problem instead of just removing a feature. Doing multiple page purchase orders that have to be attached to an invoice is ridiculous.  Any multi-page document is now a tedious photo shoot.  Not to mention to do an 8.5x11" page you almost have to stand up at your desk to get the camera high enough.

Not to mention all the other points brought up by others in this thread.

Bring back scan manager!

February 28, 2022

Yes, I really used every invoice. I actually went back and reinstalled the 2021 version. It’s stupid they removed it

Just because something is new & "updated" doesn't make it better!!!!!!!

I'm so annoyed right now, it is so iconvenient not to have the scan mgr feature..... it sux

We are upgrading from 2019 to 2022... or at least, we WERE going to do so.  Luckily I called to ask some questions about upgrading and found out about the integrated scan function being removed so we are only upgrading to 2021.

Who at QuickBooks Engineering or Software Design thought this was a good idea?

We scan hundreds of documents on a daily basis.  We DO NOT use any online version of QB and we are NOT going to be buying all our employees cell phones. The extra steps even for the mobile app will make our scanning take 2 to 3 times as long, which is ridiculous.

When will the function be brought back to the Enterprise Desktop version?

We're taking notes of your feedback, @lbarba01.

I can see that the Scan Manager feature is a great feature for your business since you're scanning hundreds of documents daily. Please know that we're working in improving the product to meet your business needs while also keeping up with the growth in technology.

For now, I encourage submitting feedback directly to our product engineers. They may look into this suggestion and consider adding back the option in the future update. To send feedback, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then select Send Feedback Online and choose Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your feedback and click Submit.

You can also continue attaching your documents using the mobile app. I know that it takes time and extra steps, but it's the best alternative we can offer right now.

Please touch base with me here for all of your QuickBooks needs. I'm still open to your replies, @lbarba01.

Visualize if you will, 10 people, whose only job is to take pictures on their mobile phone of both sides of thousands of pages that need to be attached to QB documents. On the other side, I can take an updated network scanner, plunk that stack of pages in, and tell it to scan those pages to a file. The next step is to then pay someone else to attach those scans to the correct documentation in QB. Mistakes waiting to happen.

I have sent a Feed back note within the software. I sure hope they take this seriously. I understood they removed it because there were many people with issues. If you take a finite number of scanners that are approved to function with the software-and hold users to those few, I would even be fine with that. But to remove it entirely?!   I spent 25 hours reversing the 2022 installation in our office, and the reconversion of my QB files back to the 2021 version! Thank GOD for backups!!

This just another way to push desktop users to online, look what they did, they remove scanner option that is normally done on an office environment and give us the phone option, not productive at all on an office and more like small or on the road business. Removing a feature is never an upgrade, if they add the phone option and keeping the scanner that will be an upgrade. For me I am going back to 2021 (or 2020), it is what best fit me. Intuit is pushing us out of the desktop version and that will eventually happen, but that does not necessary means we will go to their online version (at least me), and even there are not too may options today it may be on the future. When they push the yearly subscription upgrade on 2021 in order to get access to the online service it make me have my doubts, but I decide to stay for few convenience features, for me was the (1) attachment (and don't tell me is there, yes it is but is more inconvenience, and for the way this is going it not be at some point, who knows) (2) bank online download to match QB transactions (this is working half way for me, Chase do not use internet explorer anymore and that's the core for QB, so download and import is the way, there was a time when chase was using internet explorer, but they move on to the new Microsoft standard internet browser but QB did not move to the new Microsoft standards) (3) last the payroll inside QB (but to keep this you need to upgrade every year and also pay a payroll subscription)

At this time for me "Scanner": half productive, "Banking Download": halve productive, "Payroll": Full productive (for now) and at a price of QB yearly subscription + Payroll subscription.

It is a hard time for business to survive, Intuit is moving forward with their business plan base on their income, so I am on my saving plan. On the fair way, if to keep their business alive they need to increase subscription I agree with them on that, is what we all do to keep our business running pass the cost to the customers, but we don't remove service, we always try to accommodate our customers needs and charge for the service we provide, at the end of the day we are on business because of them.

A this time I have options, keep the 2021 (or 2020), that way I'll keep my scanning option, (full service), loose the banking download (loose full service) and get a different Payroll software (full service with somebody else), this way I'll keep an important feature for me, banking download will be sacrificed but I can live with non automatic transaction matching.

Intuit, this is the way some of us think and may act on it, here you are loosing, it does not matter to me if you bring the scanning back because you can take it away whenever you think is the right time for you. I see the trend here, and is only moving us to online, I'm on premier, but just to think you remove this from enterprise confirm you want to finish the desktop option, and this release show it is already fading out.
