Is anyone bothered at all by the discontinuation of scan manager in QB 2022 Desktop? See attached image.

Let me share some updates with you, @ICGTtreasurer.

I'm sad to inform you that the Scan Manager feature was discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop 2022, and it was replaced with Attach Documents. However, it can still be used in previous, currently supported versions.

If you have the latest version, you can now use the QuickBooks Desktop mobile app, upload your documents to the system using your mobile device. You can then add them to your invoices, purchase orders, or other transactions.

Know that QBDT currently supports PDFs and images with JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG format. To utilize this feature, you'll need to download the QuickBooks Desktop app.

Please refer to these links below on how to download them based on your device:

Once done, you can now start capturing and uploading the documents. If you're using the Android version, here's how you can do that:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Desktop Android app, then tap Document under Snap and Upload.
  2. Tap the company to upload bills to, then tap Continue.
  3. Tap Snap Document.
  4. Tap the Camera icon to take a picture of the bill or tap the Photos icon to upload your bill. If you need to, you can crop and rotate the photo.
  5. Tap Use this photo.
  6. Add a Name and Memo, then tap Upload photo then tap OK.
  7. Sign in to your Intuit Account and select the company to upload bills too. You’ll only need to do this once.
  8. Sign in to your QuickBooks Desktop company file to review, edit, and match bills to transactions.

If you're using the iOS version, please see the steps on the link attached: Attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop using mobile. It also contains steps on how to view and attach documents in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've also collected these resources that you can use for guidance and streamline your daily accounting tasks:

Please let me know if you have any other questions by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to answer them. Take good care, @ICGTtreasurer.

I don't understand why they got rid of the scan manager. It was such a great feature! I have a lot of documents that I attach and now it is a pain. I really want to know their reasoning.

I have tried asking them several times. They do not want to answer this question. I have given up! That is why I decided to stay with QuickBooks 2021, which supports scanners.

Staying with 2021 is nice if you never have to email invoices and statements. Not moving on they shut that feature off.

Easy workaround for the scanner. Painful workaround for emailing

Does anyone know if Quick Books might bring back Scan Manager ??

I personally DO NOT want to use my personal cell phone for work business.

The mobile app is a total pain. One invoice at a time is very time consuming.

I know it's been discontinued for a bit, but I thought the company might listen with so many customers

voicing negative opinions about the mobile app.  Worth a shot 🙂

After several email messages to QuickBooks and Intuit corporate office, I did not receive any answer. Now I have given up. I did upgrade my QB from 2021 edition as 2021 was the last edition that had scanner support.

Good Luck!

Curious if anyone has found another program other than quick books for their accounting software? I admit I am a novice when it comes to quick books, I've only been using it for about 4 years. I have the desk top version, that I really like, tried the online version and oh my goodness, it was terrible. I've read about Intuit phasing out the desk top version, is that for real?? I finally feel a little comfortable with using it and now they want to change/discontinue. I'm old, my mind is not what it once was, why oh why do they have to change things. I was also extremely upset when they took the scan manager away. I for one do not enjoy using my personal phone for business things and on top of that, the quality of the documents "snapped" is way below a scanned version.

I believe they will release QB Desktop 2025 Enterprise on schedule. QBO users still need QB Desktop to export their data to TurboTax.

Soon, I am thinking scanning will be the least of your worries.

AI will be taking all these jobs, and if you think about it, scanning will not be needed.

Anything requiring human intervention will be undesirable.

I believe some credit cards already upload receipts without human effort.

How long do you think it will be until it attaches the documents during an update?

Banks, and other platforms, will begin tracking all of your deposits.

It is time to get another skill, or be thankful to be at retirement age.

Instead of leaving QuickBooks, if people are dead set on that, just keep 2021, get a different payroll and credit card service.

I am thinking we have 2 to 3 years on the outside.

I hope the moron that suggested removing the scanner feature was fired, and they put a scanner option BACK !!   What they heck sort of accounting software doesn't have a scanning feature ?!?!?!  The suggetion is to whip out your phone, somehow scan several pages of work documents with your personal devise (assuming you figured out how to link to your company's files remotely) ??  Way easier to just keep the scanner app on my desktop, and drag and drop....  but still doubles the amount of work when attaching receipts to everything.

The overall vote hear appears to be Intuit screwed up royally on this one.

I am not happy at all about the discontinuation of the scan capabilities in Enterprise 2024. Some of my invoices are mailed and now I have to scan them to my computer first to add them to my transactions. Quick Books is getting worse and we are paying more to use it! i think we are going to look for other options for our accounting.

Yes you should start exploring ERPs as the replacement. You can use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good. Then you will start from scratch in an ERP to lower your conversion costs.

This is the DUMBEST change I've ever seen.  People purchased the DESKTOP version for a reason.  Because they wanted to do everything from an actual computer on their desk.  If we wanted to also use our phones, we would have bought the online version.  Now we need two devices and more steps to attach a document that we previously were able to attach with one click of the Scan Manager button.  Whoever thought this was a good idea, has never been an actual bookkeeper sitting at a desk doing the job.

I know this is late to the party, but did QB give a reason for this absurd move. Did they take a user survey?

Just had to vent my frustration for them adding extra steps to my process.
