Hello there, shankar2.

In QuickBooks, we can only modify certain details of the contribution or 401k, such as the description (which appears on the paycheck), the amount per paycheck, and the adjustments to the calculated setup.  You can refer this screenshot to see what you can only update to what you have set up.

Thus, directly changing the contribution type is not an available option. Instead, we can create a new 401k contribution with the correct type. Here's the process:

  1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Select your employee.
  3. From Deductions & contributions, select Start or Edit.
  4. Select + Add deduction/contribution.
  5. In the Deduction/contribution field, click + Add deduction/contribution.
  6. Choose Retirement plans.
  7. Choose the appropriate type of 401k.

Additionally, you can generate payroll reports to gain a more detailed insight into your business's financial status. For more information, please refer to this article: How to Run Payroll Reports in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Stay in touch if you have further questions about setting up deductions/contributions in QBO. I'll be around to provide detailed instructions.
