Is there a 401(k) report that I can customize and download with information regarding the following fields?

- Rehire date

- Eligibility date

- Participation date

- Phone

- Email

- Hourly vs. Salary

- Contributions split into Traditional 401(k), Roth 401(k), and Employer Match

- Employee name split into First, Middle, Last, Employee Sex, Pay Date?

The only report I can find is the Deferred Compensation Report 401(k).

Hello Steffiny,

Aside from the Deferred Compensation Report 401(k), you can also pull up the 401(k) Reports. You can customize it depending on the fields you need.

Here's how to pull up the report:

  1. Click Reports at the top menu and select Employees & Payroll.
  2. Click More Payroll Reports in Excel and select 401(k) Reports.
  3. Select the Report Type (Census or Payroll) you want and click Create Report.

It will open an Excel file with the data you want to display.

If the 401(k) Report option is not available, I'd recommend updating your QuickBooks release and the payroll tax table versions.

Anything you want to add or ask would be appreciated. Have a great day!

How can report for 2019 if we are are currently in 2020? When i pull the report it only shows current employees and not any for 2019.

Let me help you in viewing your 2019 reports in QuickBooks, @NadiaS.

If you're trying to access your 2019 401K report, you can follow the detailed steps provided above.

When you access the Census report, this will show all of the active employees in the excel file, regardless of their hire date.

However, if you access the Payroll report, you can select the 2019 paycheck date in the drop-down. This will show all of the employees report for the last year.

Also, you'll want to run other payroll-related reports that can help you easily review payroll transactions. Check out these articles for more details:

Deferred compensation report is a joke. It is not adequate for annual census reporting.

Why when I run my Deferred Compensation Report 401(k) does it only report with the employees up to last name starting with D.  I need to submit this report asap and the report does not calculate properly.  Why does it only show about 25% of my employees??

Hi marie20,

Let's fix the employee list on the 401K report by running the verify and rebuild steps.

To start with, click the File menu. Select Utilities, and then Verify Data. If you see an error message, search for it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site for how to fix it. If the system prompts you with Your data has lost integrity message, it indicates that data damage was found in the file. Thus, you'll have to rebuild it. Here's how:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Under Utilities, select Rebuild Data.
  3. Select OK to create a backup copy of your file.
  4. You can choose where you want to save the backup file. Then, click OK.
  5. Enter a new file name.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Select OK when the rebuild is complete.

unfortunately that did not work.  I need to submit this report asap as part of an audit and I am unable to run a report that should honestly only take a few minutes to run.  It is the deferred compensation 401(k) report and it only exports employees last name A-D, so only a percentage of my total employees.  How do I get this report so I can submit it???
