Question

A liability a/c is setup with type AP, instead of current liab. There's only a small bal in this a/c but a lot of transactions throughout 2021. Is there a work around?

Hello, venu-historic-tr.

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can help you change the account by creating a new liability account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Your Company, pick Chart of Accounts.
  3. Select New.
  4. Enter all the information needed.
  5. Now press Save and Close.

Once done, If you are using an old QuickBooks Online account you can follow these steps on how to merge an account.

  1. Open your Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the account that does not have any transactions or the one that you want to rename.
  3. Click the drop-down list under the Action column and select Edit.
  4. Rename the account to the same exact name with the one that you will retain.
  5. Click Save and close.

I've added an article here for more insights on what account and data that you can merge in QuickBooks: Merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online.
