Accruing sick time NJ

I have several employees who carried over 40 hours sick time but now on the first pay of the year it is not accruing new sick time almost as if it hit the max for the year.  I have it set to Avail hours 40, accrues 2:40 for 80 hours pay, max number to accrue 40, max to carryover 40.  No matter what I try it does not work and I had to create a spreadsheet to track.  First time I had this problem as no one had 40 hours carryover last year.

Hello there @EllieClaireW58.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for help with getting your employees’ sick time adjusted correctly. I’d be happy to help with that.

Based on the information you provided, it looks like you need to increase the max number to accrue. If your employee is carrying over 40 hours and the max number to accrue is 40 hours, no more PTO will accrue. If you’re concerned about too much time accruing, you can adjust the preferences.

If you want to set up a preference where no time will accrue on overtime hours, you can do so here:

  1. Select Edit, then Preferences.
  2. Select Payroll & Employees then go to the Company Preferences tab.
  3. Select Sick and Vacation.
  4. Fill in the defaults you want to set up. Note: Make sure to check the Do not accrue boxes at the bottom if you don't want time accrued when paying sick/vacation/overtime.

I’ll leave this resource for you too:Set up and track time off in payroll

I know accruals can be confusing at times. Let me know if you have any additional questions about them or anything else for that matter. I’m happy to help anytime.

Have a great day!
