Actual Payroll Reports

It's hard to get a straight answer on Quickbooks online payroll module reporting capability. I'm just looking for the same functionality I had in the desktop module. Specifically if I purchase the payroll module will I be to run custom reports for groups of employees or individuals and filter by class? I've been told yes and no by quickbooks online. Stripping payroll reporting out of the online product is a real shame.

Welcome to the Community. Allow me to assist you and provide clarification about the payroll reports in QuickBooks Online.

 

The cloud-based version of QuickBooks contains payroll reports you can run for your business. However, the specific report you're looking for is unavailable in the Online version.

 

There's a comprehensive report called Payroll Summary by Employee that shows payroll information. It allows users to customize the data and filter to show Class (see screenshot below).

 

 

If you want to customize the details further, you can export data to Excel. You can do this by clicking the Share drop-down in the upper-right and selecting Export to Excel.

 

Also, the custom reports in QBO are different from Desktop. You'll need to run a canned report and save it along with the changes you've made from the customization.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Reports on the left-hand menu.
  2. Select any report you'd like.
  3. At the top-right of the report, press on the Customize button.
  4. When you're finished with the report, you can save your work by clicking on Save Customization. 
  5. You can look at your saved reports under the Custom reports tab on the Reports page.
