When you add commissions to an employee, is there any way to assign it to a customer/job? I want to track commissions in my profit and loss statement, and this is the only way I can think to do it. Any tips?

Warm welcome, mhaverluk. I'm here to ensure you can assign an employee's commission to a customer/job.

Please know there's no direct feature to assign employee commission to a customer/job. In the meantime, you can create a check and link it to the customer/job, also known as the project. However, it won't affect payroll.

  1. Hover to +New, then select Check.
  2. From the Payee dropdown, select the employee's name.
  3. Under Category details, choose the account for the commission in the Category column.
  4. Tick the BILLABLE column, then click the project in the CUSTOMER/PROJECT column.
  5. Complete all necessary details, then hit Save and close.

If you wish the commission to affect the payroll, you'll need to calculate the hourly cost rate for each employee. Then, add it using timesheets.

Here's how:

  1. Hover to + New, then select Weekly Timesheet.
  2. Please select the worker and the week for which you want to enter the time from the dropdown menus.
  3. Select the project from the Choose a customer or project drop-down menu. It will tag the timesheet to the project.
  4. Fill out the timesheet
  5. You can check the Billable (/hr) and edit the billable rate (the price you’re charging your customers) if you plan to invoice your customer for specific project hours.
  6. Once done, tap Save and close

Moreover, if you want to look closely at your business's finances, you can run a payroll report. It will provide a detailed summary of your company's payroll expenses, including employee salaries, bonuses, taxes, and other related costs.
