Question

Adding time to invoice not working?

I haven't been able to automatically add time tracked to invoices for some time. It was working fine, but a few months ago it stopped. I have been using a manual workaround that is time consuming.

I'm using Online Essentials, single employee tracking, all Time settings are turned on for billable time. What is new is that I now only get the following error when I go to Time Overview.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for posting in the Community space and adding a screenshot, pcford.

Let me get the help you need about adding time to an invoice.

The error message "Login not allowed for this account. Your account does not have access to submit time directly. Please talk to your Admin or sign in to your QuickBooks Online account." happens when your user permissions don't have rights to do so. Since you mentioned that it was working fine on your end a few months ago, I recommend contacting the Admin of the account to review your user access. It's possible they modify it.

For more details about user roles and access permissions, check out this article: User roles and access rights in QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, here's an article in case you'd want to run reports to view a snapshot of your business in the future: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

If you have other questions concerning QuickBooks, let me know in the comment section below. I'm just a post away to help. Have a good one!

Hi, pcford.

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm here to help fix the issue you're having with adding time to invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since you're the primary admin, you should be able to add time to invoices and access the Time Overview.

To isolate this, let's sign in to your QBO using a private browser (incognito). In certain instances, the browser may contain a significant amount of frequently accessed page resources such as cache and cookies, which can lead to unexpected responses.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).
  •  Ctrl + Shift + P (Microsoft Edge)

If everything appears to be in order, please return to your default browser and clear the cache to refresh the system. However, if the problem continues, consider using other supported browsers as an alternative.

To learn more about tracking and invoicing your billable time in QBO, check out this article: Enter billable time by job in QuickBooks Online.

Please leave a comment below if you have additional questions about this or anything else. I'll be more than willing to assist. Keep safe.
