After the fact payroll in QBO Premium Plus

Client purchased a QBO Premium Plus subscription.  The conversion from desktop had so many issues I was unable to run the first payroll through QBO as planned.  To get employees paid on time I ran another payroll through QBDT.  This was after the last payroll prior to conversion in QBDT history was entered.  Essentially, I need to enter an "after the fact" payroll in QBO Premium Plus to bring employees current.  Because I've spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with one issue after another with this conversion I'm hoping there is a simple, straight forward way to accomplish this without spending hours with customer service....

    Good afternoon, @dso0216. 

     

    Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. How are you today? 

     

    You can enter the Payroll through the Payroll history option. Here's how:

     

    1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as the primary admin.
    2. Go to Payroll, and then select Overview.
    3. If you haven’t already, add all of your employees paid this year in the Tell us about your team task. Include all employees that no longer work for you. Make sure to set up each pay item, deduction, contribution and tax showing on their pay stubs or reports.
    4. Next to Add your payroll history, tap on Start.

     

    Now you can enter how much you've paid your employees. Here's how:

     

    1. Click on Enter next to your first employee.
    2. Answer the questions about when you paid your employee.
    3. Use the employee pay stubs or payroll reports to enter the amounts in each column. If you’re missing an item, exit the history task and add it to your employee through the Tell us about your team task.
    4. When you’re finished, select Continue.
    5. Repeat steps 1–4 for each employee paid this year.
    6. When finished with all employees, hit Continue twice.

    I believe you missed the point.  History through the conversion date was entered.  Another payroll needs to be entered now as the payroll scheduled to run in QBO premium could not be processed so I ran that payroll in QB as a result QBO Premium is missing data for 1 payroll cycle.  I need to enter that payroll.

      We can enter a backdated pay run into the application as long as it's within the current quarter, dso0216.

       

      This functionality ensures your records remain accurate, capturing all employee compensation, benefits, and deductions over time.

       

      Here's how:

       

      1. Go to Payroll and select Employees.
      2. Click the Run payroll button.
      3. Select a payroll schedule and change the Pay date and Pay period if needed.
      4. Select the employees and add their salary or hours worked.
      5. The pay method should be a Paper check. Then, click Preview Payroll.
      6. To finish, click Submit Payroll.

      What you've experienced is rather standard when converting from QuickBooks Desktop and on par with the rest of QuickBooks Online. It's important to set your expectations very low.  If you do, you might be marginally satisfied with QuickBooks Online - provided you don't hit too many giant gaps in functionality compared to QuickBooks Desktop.
