An ex employee never gave me their social security number. I asked recently and they are refusing. What can I do?

You can reach out to the Social Security Administration (SSA). They provide a service for employers to verify a name and SSN for wage reporting purposes when you want additional assurance of an employee’s correct name and SSN.

You can also correct an employee's Social Security number in their w-4 information. If you have filed any forms reporting an employee's incorrect SSN, you must amend these forms using the corrected SSN.
