Question

Bank account field for direct deposit

When entering bank info for employee direct deposit, QBO allows only numbers; one of our employees has letters in their account number, so direct deposit fails. Intuit could easily fix this, but there is no way to report this. I have used "feedback" for this, but am not hopeful it will reach anyone who could do something about it. This was not a problem in QB desktop versions, by the way. So, two questions:

1. Does anyone know of a work around for this?

2. How do you report a "bug"?

Thanks.

Hi, @KathieH1. I'm here to help.

As of now, QuickBooks Online (QBO) only allows entering bank account numbers that don't contain letters since most account numbers are a combination of numbers.

While we don't have an exact workaround for entering a direct deposit bank account number containing letters, you can consider setting up a different bank account. You can also consider contacting the employee's financial institution to see if they can provide an alternative account number that contains only numbers for direct deposit purposes.

However, I recognize entering all types of bank account numbers is a function that the software must have, and your experience highlights where it needs to improve. Reporting a missing function within the software remains the same as sending feedback.

  1. In your QBO account, go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.

For future reference, let me add this article about setting up tax preferences, adding pay history, and other tasks you can review in QBO before paying your team: Get started with QuickBooks Online Payroll.
