Can i add payroll for last year

I did not use the payroll service last year.  at this point i need to generate a w2 and would like to do that for the previous year (2023).  can i go back and do that?

If you've just started running payroll in QuickBooks, you can input last year's payroll information for the current year. To proceed, you can follow the steps below:

 

  1. Prepare your pay history information.
  2. If you haven’t started setting up, ensure that you have added all employees paid last year, including those who no longer work for you. Make sure to set up each pay item, deduction, contribution, and tax showing on their pay stubs or reports.
  3. Enter how much you paid your employees that year. 
  4. Enter your company totals for each payday.

If you've already created paychecks and want to edit them, you may need to contact us to change your pay history. 

 

Moreover, to generate W-2s for the previous year by providing paper copies to your employees for records, you may also need to print W-2s.
