Can I convert a Contractor to an employee using the Add Employee?

If I use the Add Employee, a message popup saying. "Another employee, vendor, or customer is already using the name.  Please enter a different name."

Yes, @miljonb. You can add your contractor as an employee by clicking the Add an Employee button. Allow me to share further information. 

 

To begin with, please know that we currently don't have the option to convert a Contractor to an Employee directly.

 

As a workaround, you can utilize the Add an Employee button and manually add them as your employee.

 

However, QuickBooks will not recognize employees and contractors with identical names, resulting in the error message "Another employee, vendor, or customer is already using the name. Please enter a different name."

 

Since you've received this error, I recommend adding a unique identifier, such as a syllable or character. Alternatively, you can add or remove the middle name of your contractor.

 

Once you've added them as your employees, you may want to invite them to QuickBooks Workforce. Doing this will allow them to access and print their pay stubs and W-2s online.
