Hello there, Monica. Your employee may be eligible for a FICA tax refund, subject to specific criteria.

To determine if your employee meets all the requirements and criteria for claiming a refund, we recommend reaching out to the IRS. They can provide detailed guidance on the refund process.

On the other hand, to view a detailed summary of your company's payroll expenses, including employee salaries, bonuses, taxes, and other related costs, you can run a payroll report in the future.

You might also want to learn how to set up your employees as exempt in QuickBooks Online once they meet the specific requirements. This way, they won’t have any Federal or State Withholding taxes deducted from their paychecks.

Hi, we are in the same situation. I have made the employee exempt for upcoming paychecks but what should I do for the previous paycheck where we withheld SS and Medicare? I can issue him a reimbursement but how can I get the FICA payment back from the federal government?

I appreciate you joining the thread and detailing your concern. Allow me to chime in and share my thoughts regarding this matter.

I recommend reaching out to the IRS. They have an expert who can provide you with the information about the previous paycheck and guide you through the process of getting the FICA payment back for you.

I'm adding this article you can use in the future: Learn about reports to use to enter prior payroll.
