Question

Can I still add previous payroll totals in Quickbooks Desktop for 2021 in 2022 so W-2s will have correct wage information?

We switched from an outside payroll vendor to Quickbooks Enhances Payroll in Oct 2021.  We need to add the previous payroll totals in to QB so the 2021 W-2s will be correct.  However, when I try to go in to enter them, it states 2022 as the year.  Can someone help?  thanks so much!

I've got the steps you'll need on adding prior payroll in QuickBooks Desktop, mrscanepa.

You'll have to set up your payroll items and taxes in the payroll set up interview. This way, you can add your prior payroll information. Note: Be sure to add all employees you paid in this calendar year, even if they no longer work for you. You’ll need to add their year-to-date pay info as well.

I'll show you how:

  1. Select Employees, then Payroll Setup.
  2. Follow the screens to add your employees, then set up your company payroll items and taxes.

Next is to add your employee's prior paycheck. You can refer to this article and proceed to Step 2: Add your employee's prior paychecksAdd payroll info to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll when you already paid employees this year.

You can also use this article for future reference if you need to enter payments that you've already made for taxes and other payroll liabilities from the beginning of the calendar year: Enter historical tax payments in Desktop payroll.

These steps are sure to help you get your previous payroll added to QuickBooks Desktop.
