Hello @dianne rinaldi,

Yes, your employees can clock in and out even without selecting a customer for their time activity.

In the same manner, here's an article you can read to learn more about your employee's time activity: Track and manage QuickBooks Time.

On top of that, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Help Articles for QuickBooks Online Payroll.

If you have any other questions, please let me know in the comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.

hi I'm also interested in my workers clocking in at the start of the day and clocking out at the end of the day rather than every job throughout the day.

I can see your reply and a link but nowhere in your response or in the link do you directly answer the question or explain how to do it. I've noticed this on a lot of the posts, surely if you don't know the answer you would be better not answering the questions. Better still can you answer the question and explain how its done?

I don't want to come across as rude, adding links which people then spend 10 minutes reading only to find the answer isn't there is wasting peoples valuable time.

Hello, contact59.

We value your voice, and I know how time is important to each of us. Let me share details about how QuickBooks Time works.

The reason why you need to clock in and clock out every job is to track hours for fixed fee jobs in this time clock manner.

Check out this article to keep track and manage your Time in QBO: Track and manage QuickBooks Time

Let me share the link to our self-help articles. It contains resources that will guide you on how to perform each process: QBO Payroll

I was able to reach a customer service rep.  Set up it for you employees to clock in and clock out only without picking a customer you need to do the following:

Click "Customer" on the left side list

there you are going to get "Manage Customer"

Click the Gear on the Corner and unclick "Assigned to all"

and that should do it.

It's great to have you here in the Community forum, @MATT235. I appreciate your participation in the thread to know more about the instructions on how to clock in and clock out your employees in QuickBooks.

Are you referring to the information shared by JT Immigration on how to set up the employees to clock in and clock out without picking a customer? If so, I'll share the steps on how to do it in your QB Time account.

Here's how:

  1. Click Customers on the left side list.
  2. Under the Manage Customers menu, click the small gear icon.
  3. Uncheck the Assigned to all.

You may also track your employee's time activity by going to the time entries menu. To view their time, follow the steps below:

  1. Select Time and choose Time entries.
  2. From the dropdown, select CustomerEmployee, or Contractor.
  3. Adjust the displayed date range if necessary.
  4. Select an individual customer, employee, or contractor to see the timesheet details.
  5. Customize what columns you see on the timesheets by selecting the gear icon under Total Hours.

For more details, see this article: Track and manage QuickBooks Time.
