Question

Can use Exactime to track my employees in the field and have their hours and job location downloaded to QB online payroll, is this possible?

I have been told that it's possible, but I have spent countless hours on the phone with extremely poor QB customer service. Exaktime imports the hours and matches the employees with no issue. Exactime told me that I should be able to add the job on QB's program and it would link and download from QB online payroll to Exaktimes program. No one at QB can tell me where to add the jobs in On line Payroll. We had core and I upgraded to Elite, because the first tech guy said I needed that program, but I still can't get an answer for where do I enter the job data? I would also like to know if this job data when exported to desktop Mac 2024 will carry over?

I'll help you enter jobs or projects in QuickBooks Online.

In QuickBooks Online, jobs are called projects.

Utilize Projects in QuickBooks Online to monitor your project's profitability. You can input project income, expenses, labor costs and generate project-specific reports all from a unified dashboard. If necessary, you can allocate old transactions to new or ongoing projects.

Projects are enabled by default in QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced. However, if you are using QuickBooks Online Accountant, you will need to manually activate the Projects feature.

Here's how to create a new project:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to Projects.
  3. Select New project.
  4. In the Project name field, enter the project name.
  5. Select a customer from the Customer ▼ dropdown.
  6. Enter a Start date and End date for the project.
  7. Select a project status from the Project Status ▼ dropdown.
  8. Note: You can also add more project info in the Notes field.
  9. Click Save.

Here is an article you can read for the detailed steps: Create and manage projects in QuickBooks Online.

You can also read this article about migrating data fro QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop: Migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

For future reference, I'm adding this article you can refer to in managing projects in QuickBooks Online: Compare project cost estimates vs. actuals in QuickBooks Online Advanced.

Let me know if you have questions about managing projects in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

In quickbooks online payroll there is no option for projects. There appears to be a disconnect, quickbooks online payroll and quickbooks on line are two different things.

Is quickbooks online payroll capable of allowing projects?

I appreciate you getting back to us, info.

I'm here to provide you with more details about the Projects feature in QuickBooks and assist in identifying why you may not have access to this option.

Yes, QuickBooks Online payroll can accommodate projects. You may have been using a standalone payroll service, which could be the reason why the Project option isn't available in your account.

Here are some resources you can check to know more about the Project feature:
