Hello,

No.  At this time, QBO only allows you to file your 1099 once.  If an amended 1099 needs to be filed, you need to get the form from the IRS website and fill it out and sent it in to the IRS directly.

This seems like a significant shortcoming of the software. Is there a plan to incorporate?

I don't know.  Intuit has not released any information stating so that I know of.

This is a terrible oversight. Does anyone know if this has been fixed for the 2019 1099's for the "on-line" version?

Hello there, kl9.

Thanks for following up on this thread. I'd like to provide some additional info about your 1099 question.

The 1099 E-File Service with QuickBooks Online doesn't allow for corrections to a 1099 form after it has been e-filed. However, any updates or corrections can be made in a printed copy and sent in by mail to the IRS.

This link provides even more details about preparing and filing Federal 1099s using QuickBooks Online, and what to do if you need to make a correction.

I'm only a comment or post away if you have any other questions.

Hello, adamtheartisandesigngroup.

As of this moment, once you e-filed the form using 1099 E-File Service, you can no longer make corrections. What you can do is make corrections in a printed copy and manually sending it by mail to the IRS.

Here's how to file the amended form:

  1. Order 1099-NEC IRS forms online at IRS Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns.
  2. Fill out the 1099-NEC form and be sure to select the Corrected checkbox.
  3. Once done, mail the form to the IRS.
  4. After that, mail the recipient copy to your contractor as soon as possible so that they can file their taxes.
