Cannot file Q2 2021 Form 941

I am trying to print and file Form 941 for 2nd Quarter of 2021 and get the error message below:

Form 941: Employer Identification Number- Form 941 is a draft form and is not to be filed with the IRS. Final form will be available in a later release

When is this later release available? What do I do in the meantime? Is anyone else having this issue and know what I need to do?

Let's make sure you'll be able to file and print your taxes for the 2nd Quarter, cfdc.

You'll have to ensure to keep your software and payroll updated so you'll have the latest features and fixes. To get payroll updates, follow the steps below.

  1. Select Employees, then select Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Select the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  3. Select Download Latest Update. An informational window appears when the download is complete.

Once done, double-check if you're already able to file the form. Sometimes, you'll encounter this error if QuickBooks is having an update. If you're still getting the same error, you'll want to file the form on the EFTPS website. To prepare and print Form 941, Schedule B, and Form 940, you can read through this article: Prepare your forms, and print and save them. Also, you can find information on the latest payroll update as well as earlier release updates: Find recent payroll updates.

Also, see this article for your future reference in preparing Form 941: How QuickBooks populates the 941.

Let us know if you have any other concerns about filing 941 forms. We'll always be right here to help.

I have downloaded the entire payroll update, confirmed that the release says it includes changes to the 941.  However, when I prepare the 941, I too get the "draft form - IRS will not accept..." message.

When will Intuit have a Q2 2021 941 able to be populated in QuickBooks.  Your work-around is unacceptable!

Just got off the phone with Intuit - form is not available yet (even though 6/24 updates does say that the 941 was updated).  I was told that form is still in Engineering, and they do not have a release date yet, but said we would receive an email and there will be a notification in QuickBooks when the new form is available.

941 Form for the 2nd Quarter 2021 doesn't even appear in my payroll forms "to be filed." I've checked my updated and it says its there, and it's not.  Of course, you cannot speak to anyone on a weekend.  I'm so sick of this crap.  Not to mention QB does not work with (locks up) when I try to use Adobe PRO DC while it's open.

Hi, atsportables.

As referenced by my previous peers, our Payroll Team is still validating the forms due to its changes to ensure it's up-to-date so you stay compliant with the government.

While we're working as quickly as possible to launch the final form, you may download the latest tax table on QuickBooks Desktop.

This process is a good start when it comes to fixing payroll form-related issues as well as helps synchronize the updates.

Additionally, I'll be sharing with you this write-up: Payroll 101. It contains more information about the different types of compensation as well as on what are the types of federal forms you need to file. Also, this will provide you a sample breakdown of a paycheck.

I appreciate your patience while we're working on this. If you have any other issues or concerns, please let me know by dropping a comment below. I'm always here to help. Have a lovely week ahead!

So NOW it says.   IMPORTANT:   should be updated on 7/1/21  It wasn't there earlier obviously since that would of answered all our questions

July 1, 2021

Its 7/1/21 the start of the third quarter.  The form is still not available and that is unacceptable.  QB costs accountants too much money to have this level of poor service.  You try to get help and you have over an hour wait.  Why do they increase fees every year and service gets worse.

Same problem here... Got the entire payroll update, and still getting the same message.

When will this form be available???

July 1, 2021

The 941 is available now. Do another payroll update, and the form should be good to go.

July 1, 2021

just tried, still no go

July 1, 2021

I had to update twice and could then submit the 941, but now I am getting payroll update error messages for the WR30 and cannot file that. Their fix caused another problem.

Hello all,

I came to see why I couldn't file my 941 and am getting the same error.

I, too am disgusted at the level of ineptitude shown by our chosen accounting software. I am still unable to file the form. Here is a fillable PDF from IRS.gov that I can at least mail. I used the numbers from QB from the (unsubmitted) 941.

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f941.pdf

This is not by far an acceptable solution, but for those who can't wait for the fix from intuit, it's available.

well, now after waiting to get the update - i forgot to file - and just realized it. Now I'm getting the error message that i cant use the current form to file Quarter 2 941. Is there a way to revert back? what do i do?

Thanks for taking the time to post here and letting us know what's going on, @Wdlowe.

Reverting to file back your Quarter 2 941 forms is unavailable. Since you're unable to file the forms, you'll have to go to the IRS website and manually fill out a 941 return. This way you can print or download the form then mail it to the Federal Agency.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://www.irs.gov/forms-instructions
  2. In the Search field, enter 941.
  3. Tap the form on the result to open a PDF 941 file.
  4. Enter the information manually then use the Download or Print option.

Also, please check these links for your reference about payroll updates. These process is a good start when it comes to fixing payroll form-related issues as well as helps synchronize the updates.

I've also added a link that explains the equivalent of each line in the report and its deadlines:

KJS sent me a reply about this same topic (can't find it now), which does not work.  Part of it says to go to the "File Forms Tab" under Other Activities in Payroll Setup -- There is no File Forms Tab or Other Activities. Furthermore, I already did the update of the tax tables  - multiple times - and still no Form 941 for second quarter. THIS IS BS.  Is there going to be a work around that works? Still waiting. And, of course, I have no way of replying to KJS because its a "no reply" email address.

I'd be glad to help you today, @atsportables.

I recommend performing the verify and rebuild troubleshooting to scan your data. This will help QuickBooks identify and self-resolve potential data integrity issues.

To verify data:

  1. Select Window then Close All.
  2. Go to File then Utilities. Choose Verify Data.

To rebuild data:

  1. Go to FileUtilities then select Rebuild Data.
  2. Choose where you want to save your backup.
  3. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  4. Hit OK when you see "Rebuild has completed".

For the detailed steps, you can review this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists, you can contact Payroll Support. This way, we can look into it further and see how we can help you from here.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have further questions. Take care!
