Cash advance repayment

We made a payroll cash advance to an employee and they have been repaying it through a deduction on their weekly payroll check. This week, he had a little extra money to put towards it and brought in cash. How do I record this 1) deposit side and 2) to the YTD paid on the payroll side?

Thank you in advance.

Hi ACW TRUCKLINE!

Thank you for taking the time to post today. I'll provide information about recording cash advances and repayments.

To do this, you can set up a payroll item that you will use to record the cash advance and repayments on your employee's payrolls. Please follow the steps for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll in this article: Set up and repay employee advances.

As for the out-of-payroll repayment (deposit), you can record it as a deposit, and use the expense category you assigned in the item's setup.

Item's Setup and Make Deposit windows

On the other hand, if you want to see more references for payroll, you can visit the main support page and click More topics.

Let me know if you have any other questions in mind. Take care and have a good one!
