Change in payroll

A salaried employee is currently set up on a semi monthly payroll schedule; just paid 1st-15th of month. If we wanted to change employee to hourly still 40 hour work week, what is the easiest way to do that? For part timers, I also have a bi weekly payroll schedule where dates run 2 weeks prior because they are clocking in. Would I move employee to bi weekly schedule?

Hello there, @35351.

 

You'll want to create another payroll item for the new rate. This is what you will be using whenever you want to apply the new rate for your employee. 

 

Here's how to create a payroll item:

 

  1. Go to Lists, then select Payroll Item List.
  2. Select Payroll Item, then select New.
  3. Click Custom Setup, then select Next.
  4. Select Wage, then select Next.
  5. Choose Hourly Wage. Select the appropriate pay type.
  6. Click Next. Enter a name for the pay item (if you have various types of regular pay, you can differentiate them with the name), then select Next.
  7. Choose the Expense account where you want to track wages.
  8. Select Finish.

Additionally, you can also move your employee to bi weekly.

Would the best option be to put employee on biweekly schedule? I have that set up for the hourly part time employees, but have never had a salaried employee go to full time hourly.

Yes, it's better to put your employee on a biweekly schedule, @35351.

 

Every other week or Bi-weekly, pay your employees every two weeks. If you schedule payday for every other Friday, you have 26 payouts per year.

 

To create a payroll schedule here's what to do:

 

  1. Proceed to Employees, then choose Payroll Center. 
  2. Click the Payroll Schedule ▼ dropdown then select New.
  3. Enter a name for the schedule and choose how often you'll pay employees on the schedule.
  4. Complete the remaining fields, then choose OK. 
  5. Click Yes to assign the new schedule to all your employees.

 

Then, assign a pay schedule to your employee.

 

  1. Go to Employees, then choose Employee Center.
  2. Double-click the employee's name.
  3. Click the Payroll Info tab.
  4. Select the Payroll Schedule ▼ dropdown.
  5. Choose the Payroll Schedule that you wish to assign to this employee.
  6. Click OK to save.
