Hello @Jsharp4120,

Welcome to the Community space! I can share some information about the direct deposit feature in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks doesn't require users to purchase a payroll plan to pay contractors via direct deposit. However, you'll need an additional subscription called Contractor Payments.

You can purchase it directly from our website as an add-on to your existing QuickBooks plan. Here's how:

  1. Go to: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/payroll/contractor-payments/#pricing.
  2. Scroll down and select Buy now under Contractor Payments.
  3. Press Sign In to add the subscription to an existing company.

Before making payments, you'll need to add your company's bank details and your contractor's direct deposit info. I've attached an article you can use to learn about the process in QuickBooks: Pay a contractor with direct deposit.

Reach out if you have more questions about direct deposit or paying contractors. I'll be here to help. Have a great day.

So when under "sign in" it says click here to add a company to an existing account. It creates a company under the account umbrella for contractor payments but it doesn't allow just the addition of the subscription to the same main company under account. Help!!

Hi there, Mmkgp25.

I tried the steps that you took and it routes me to the company that I selected. It did not create a separate one and it went directly to the Contractors tab of the existing account.

A possible browser issue might have caused the system to create a separate account. I have steps to share that can resolve some of the most common browser and unexpected results when working in the program.

Let's start by switching or using other browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla, Microsoft Edge, or Safari. They are all compatible with QBO and can help us isolate the issue. Use these keyboard shortcuts on how to do that:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Firefox
  • Control + Option +P if you're using Safari
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Microsoft Edge

After that, go back to the website or in the existing account and check if it's adding to it. If it does, follow the steps in this article on how to clear cached or delete internet files: Clear Cache and Cookies to Fix Issues When Using QuickBooks Online.

Aside from that you can also open the existing account. Then, follow the steps in this article on how to set it up: Pay a Contractor with Direct Deposit.

Let me also share these articles in case you need more information and guidance when paying contractors in QBO:

Another option, signup for a separate Melio account for free to pay your 1099 contractors and integrate it with QBO.
