Question

Different Hourly Pay Rate on a job

Hello,

We have just started a new job where our employees get a separate hourly rate. The rate they receive is equal to their normal OT rate so essentially every hour worked on the job is at an OT rate. Would I make a new hourly wage payroll item for the job with the special rate or would I simply reclassify all of the hours they worked as OT hours when I do payroll?

Hi there, @ewright12.

It's necessary for employers to calculate overtime pay for their employees. Depending on your state, industry, and how you run your business, rules and rates vary. It's also important to keep an eye on how it affects employees' withholdings.

I recommend seeking professional advice from a tax advisor or your accountant about this. They know how properly handle this type of scenario. If you don't have one, not to worry! I can help run a search.

Here's how:

  1. Visit the ProAdvisor site.
  2. Enter your city or ZIP code in the Location field. It will display a list of accountants or bookkeepers near you.
  3. You can also filter the service provided, industry served, and product supported to narrow down the results.
