When trying to send payroll/direct deposit nothing happens.  No error message, no prompt to enter PIN.  I have to hit ESC to unfreeze.

I'll make sure you can send payroll/direct deposit transactions using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll, @LoLa-Bennett. This way, you're able to pay your employees on time.

When QBDT is frozen, there could be several possible causes:

  • Your company name may be too long
  • You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Your program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system

To resolve this, you can run Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. The Quick Fix option will shut down any open background processes QuickBooks uses and runs a quick repair on your program.

You can start by downloading and installing the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  4. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  6. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Then, from the Tool Hub, run the Quick Fix my Program. Here's how:

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

In case the issue persists, I'd recommend continuing with the troubleshooting steps starting with Solution 2 in this article: Solutions for when QuickBooks has stopped working.

Also, to further guide you in managing your payroll account and direct deposit transactions using QBDT Payroll, I would encourage you to check out this article: Help on Common Payroll topics. It includes topics about running payroll and report and liabilities, to name a few.

Let me know if you have another payroll/direct deposit concerns and questions about managing employee transactions using QBDT Payroll. Please drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @Lola-Bennettf.
