Question

Does anyone have any experience with adding historical payroll data AFTER you've done payroll with Quickbooks Payroll online?

We used Quickbooks Online for payroll for 10+ years.  We decided to try an outside payroll company - it went horribly.  They messed up everything they possibly could.  We never cancelled Quickbooks Online.  We decided to go back to using QB Online to process payroll.  Is there a way to add historical paycheck data for the time we were with an outside company for payroll?

Hello there, riverbankvet.

I'm here to help ensure you can add your historical payroll data in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, you can only enter or add historical payroll data if you haven't entered any paychecks yet. Since you have already processed payroll in QBO previously, you'll need to reach out to our Payroll Support team for assistance with this task. They will be able to help you accomplish it.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QBO, go to Help (question mark) icon at the top right.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  4. Choose a way to connect with us.

To check for our Support hours, please refer to this article: Contact Payroll Support.

To learn more about managing and adding pay history in QBO, check out this article: Add pay history to QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Furthermore, I'll add these articles to assist you in effectively managing employees' paystubs, maintaining accurate data, enhancing report details, and preparing for the upcoming payroll year-end.

Please let me know if you have more questions about this or anything else. I'm more than willing to assist. Keep safe.

I did contact support.  Unfortunately, support told me it was not possible to add historical payroll once we've run payroll.  This seems incorrect to me since everything I have seen says that support can help me add it.  I was hoping for confirmation from someone else that has been in the same situation.
