Question

Does anyone know how I can update my state unemployment rate for 2023 when it is less than what QB says it should be? KS assigned .17%. QB says it has to be at least 2%

I entered .17%, effective date 1/1/2023 and when I clicked "Save" it would not save it saying it must be at least 2%.  My current rate is .2%, so not sure what's going on.

Hello @kaharlow,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can assist you with your concern about your state unemployment rate in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks coordinates with your state agency regarding the updated rate for each year. As of now, an update for the new rate is still unavailable in our system.

Rest assured, we'll give you enough time to update the information in QuickBooks before it starts. This way, you'll be able to use it effective January 1, 2023.

Also, you can make changes to your employees' state or local taxes directly from the Employment details section. I've attached an article you can visit in case you need to update the details in the future: Set up employees and payroll taxes in a new state.

Drop me a comment if you need more assistance updating the state unemployment rate or managing payroll. I'm always available to help out.
