Question

Does anyone know how to correct local tax wages on a 2021 W2?

Change over from Quickbooks desktop payroll to online payroll created a discrepancy on an employee's W2. I need to manually override the local taxable wages. How do I do that before filing?

Let me help ensure your employees have accurate W-2 information, KarynM.

Changing the local tax wages for last year's W-2 needs special handling from our Payroll Team. They'll need to pull up your account and correct your payroll data.

That being said, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Team. They can update the employee's paychecks and ensure the W-2 has correct calculations.

Here's how to get in touch with them.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

Once the local tax wages are corrected, you can start filing W-2s.

If you've already filed the form, here's what you need to do: Fix an incorrect W-2. Then, choose QuickBooks Online Payroll for instructions.

I'm also adding this link to learn what data isn't converted to QuickBooks Online: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you have additional questions about correcting local tax wages of your employee. I'll be right here to help you.

I have contacted Quickbooks help and was instructed to do something that I have no idea how. I’ve chatted, emailed, and spoke with someone. I still have no resolution. Methods of getting answers and direction is unsatisfactory.

I appreciate you coming back to share your support experience, @KarynM.

I'd also get disappointed if I were in your state. I'd love to help you with this. However, my access is limited, and I don't have admission to review your account through this Community forum.

It's best to contact our Payroll Support team to resolve the discrepancies. This way, our representative can request a payroll correction and create adjustments for that specific employee's W-2.

Additionally, I encourage reading What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online article to learn more about what will happen with the lists and transactions after the conversion.

Furthermore, you can reference this article when you're ready for the tax filing: Set-up e-file and e-pay in Online Payroll.

Feel free to tag me in this thread if you need further assistance with our payroll service. We're always here to help provide information. Take care always.
