Does QuickBooks not take out employee advances if they have a garnishment as well?

Good day, @Heather DC. Let me share info about recording cash advance payments in QuickBooks. 

Before we proceed, can you tell me how did you record the employee cash advance in the program? This way, I can provide the proper steps to address your payroll concern.

There are two ways to record cash advances in QuickBooks Online Payroll. One is by handwriting them a check, while the other is by creating a paycheck with a deduction item for cash advance repayment.

If you simply record this as a check, this won't be included in your paycheck. That's why it won't show up once you preview the paycheck. 

If you set up a payroll item for this, ensure that the total owed amount isn't reached in the Annual maximum field. To check, let's review the payroll item to know if this causes the issue. Let me show you how:

1. Go to the Payroll menu and select Employees.
2. Click the name of the employee, then go to the Deductions & contributions section.
3. Select Edit and click the Pencil icon for the Cash Advanced Repayment item.
4. Review the Annual maximum amount.
5. Make any necessary changes if needed. Then, click Save.
